A deck for artists and dreamers—deluxe edition.
Throughout history and folklore, violets have represented life and fertility, death and remembrance—a striking contrast of joy v. grief, beginning v. end, and future v. past.
Created by Heidi Phelps as she became a mother while losing her own mother to cancer, the Black Violet Tarot was illustrated entirely in black and white, to reflect this idea of bittersweet dualities—of shining a light in times of darkness.
The first Black Violet Tarot deck was published in 2020. This “Deluxe” edition is a special edition of the deck for its 3rd anniversary, fully funded on Kickstarter, only 8 hours after campaign launch.
Here’s what’s new:
Matte black edges. Black foil pattern backs. Upgraded card stock.
350 GSM art paper, 2.75" x 4.75" standard tarot size
80 cards per deck, including 2 bonus cards. (Read about them below.)

Design updates to the Death and Empress cards
Two new bonus cards.
This deck includes 2 original new bonus cards (“Ghost” and “Coven”) that weren’t in the previous deck.
Expanded guidebook, with a foreword by Benebell Wen.
New content: Images from each card next to meanings, editorial notes, and key words for reversals. Expanded introduction by Heidi Phelps, and a foreword by Benebell Wen, author of Holistic Tarot.
Size: 3.5” x 5.75” (89x146mm) - Placed on top of the cards with a custom EVA holder
Pages: 80+ pages (exact number TBD)
Cover: Satin matte lamination
Additional details: Black and white inside pages, section-sewn binding
New, custom keepsake box with a black ribbon pull and foil stamped logo.
